The Missal of St. Paul VI: The Complete History of the Novus Ordo Mass

In Advent of 1969, a "New Order" of the Mass was promulgated throughout the Roman Catholic Church. Despite its stark differences from the rites, prayers, and gestures of the Traditional Latin Mass, the new missal was implemented in most sectors of the Church with little controversy. In this text, we examine the history of the Latin Rite liturgy in general as well as take a deep and critical dive into the historical conditions as well as political maneuvering which allowed for the promulgation of a "new order" liturgy in the second half of the twentieth century.
