Edict 41 (Digesta [PDF p. 316] 37.9.1):
Sicuti liberorum eorum, qui iam in rebus humanis sunt, curam prætor habuit, ita etiam eos, qui nondum nati sint, si propter spem nascendi non neglexit.
Just as the praetor cared for the children of those already in human affairs, so too he did not neglect those not yet born, if only because of the hope of their birth.
