In the last 2½ pages, Bp. Des Lauriers addresses S. Weil's quote (which Perrin, O.P., also refutes in his Virginité):

Les chrétiens n'ont jamais dit, que je sache, pourquoi la chasteté (et notamment la virginité) a une valeur spirituelle. C'est une grave lacune, et qui éloigne du Christ beaucoup d'âmes.

Bp. Des Lauriers responds (p. 118) with a sort of semiotic-epistemological definition of virginity:

La verginità ha un valore spirituale perché per la creatura significa realizzare, con tutto il proprio essere e nei riguardi del Creatore, la totale relazionalità che è proprio dello spirito. Lo spirito, quando possiede la conoscenza, non cessa di essere lo spirito e nello stesso tempo diviene la cosa stessa che conosce; vale a dire che lo spirito esiste relativamente a ciò che conosce. La verginità è questo ma in tutto l’essere, ed al massimo grado possibile, in quanto è realizzata nei confronti con il Creatore. La verginità comporterebbe una rinuncia se non assicurasse invece una completezza, completezza nell’ordine dell’essere, che è quello al quale appartiene il rapporto tra il Creatore e la creatura.

Virginity has a spiritual value because for the creature it means realizing, with all its being and in relation to the Creator, the total relationality that is proper to the spirit. The spirit, when it possesses knowledge , does not cease to be spirit and at the same time becomes the very thing it knows *; that is to say, the spirit exists relative to what it knows. Virginity is this but in the entire being, and to the highest possible degree, as it is realized in relation to the Creator. Virginity would imply a renunciation if it did not instead assure a completeness, completeness in the order of being, which is that to which the relationship between the Creator and the creature belongs.

“Total relationality” is ultimately the soundest way of looking at virginity, as Bp. Des Lauriers does, because it resembles “substantial relationality,” which pertains to the One Godhead. Could anything have greater “spiritual value?” Une lacune qui éloigne beaucoup d’âmes du Christ, c’est l’ignorance de l’intrinsèque valeur spirituelle de la chasteté! Venite orate pro castitas.
