p. 443 (PDF p. 457) n. 80 seemingly approvingly cites Donald Goergen, O.P. awful The Sexual Celibate , which (contrary to, e.g., Pope Pius XII's Sacra Virginitas §37, which says marriage "is [not] the only means of assuring the natural development and perfection of the human personality") thinks sexual experience is necessary for psychological maturity.

However, Fr. Ashley's Healing for Freedom p. 306 (PDF p. 316) clarifies that "it is not contrary to human nature to choose never to exer­cise one’s sexual power and to remain celibate".
