This seems like a good popular introduction, although I'm surprised he doesn't cite Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange (who promoted the thesis that "the infused contemplation of the mysteries of faith and the union with God which results therefrom ... is ... in the normal way of sanctity" --Three Ages of the Interior Life).
The author does cite many good works, though.
