Description
p. 39n5 (DjVu p. 69): "In 381, at the age of thirty-six; he wrote his treatises On the Priesthood and On Virginity during his diaconate."
pp. 42-4 (DjVu pp. 72-4): Theophilus, bishop of Alexandria, consecrated St. John bishop of Constantinople/Antioch. Theophilus was very evil: Bell, Slaves of Satan ref:9.48: "Another early story of a pact with the devil regards Theophilus who allegedly sold his soul with a contract written in blood to the devil in order to become a bishop."
St. John may very well have been the first martyred Doctor.
