"[1 Tim. 2:9:] in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty. The reason for this is that since it is natural for women to be softer of body than men, so too they are weaker in [higher] reason. But it pertains to reason to arrange the acts and effects of each thing. Now decency (ornatus) consists in being ordained and disposed in due order. Thus, in regard to internal beauty (decore), unless everything is properly arranged by reason, they do not have spiritual beauty. Consequently, because women are deficient in [higher] reason, he requires external ornamentation (ornatum) of them."

"decent apparel" / habitu ornatu = καταστολή κοσμίω

καταστολή ("apparel") comes from the verb καταστέλλω, which means "to put in order, arrange, dispose", "to repress (quiet, appease), contain (as in continence)". (pp. 66ff, PDF p. 282ff.). "Sapientis est ordinare —It is for the wise man to order."

κοσμίω < cosmos means order, clean, and (by extension) the universe.

Modesty (verecundia , shamefacedness) is αἰδώς {"bashfulness, i.e. (towards men), modesty or (towards God) awe:--reverence"} < α ("not") + εἴδω ("to know").
