Le bienheureux Pie X, sauveur de la France

Description

Meinvielle, Concepción católica de la política p. 86 (PDF p. 91):

Herein lies the difference between a pontiff who is a saint and one who is not, even though he may be very virtuous. The saint is endowed with a supernatural prudence that discerns the malice of the enemy in seemingly innocent things. This is why St. Pius X was able to say to a French bishop who was determined to have L'Action Française condemned: “We have here, dear son, all that is necessary to condemn it. But we are sure that the people who have documented us so well have acted less out of love and zeal for holy religion than out of hatred of the doctrines held by L'Action Française.” Then, closing the desk drawer with a sharp blow, Pius X added: “Thus, as long as I live, never will A. F. be condemned. It does good. It defends the principle of authority. It defends order. ”30 [Charles Maurras, Blessed Pius X: Saviour of France (Le bienheureux Pie X, sauveur de la France) (1953) p. 72]
