Title: Practice disputation
Post by: Geremia on May 31, 2016, 11:23:59 AM
Let's practice with disputed question like: "Whether the Novus Ordo is the Catholic Church."

In other words:
where S = "that which is one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic", P = "the Catholic Church", Q = "Novus Ordo". This is a classic BArbArA syllogism (cf. this thread (http://isidore.co/forum/index.php?topic=7.msg15#msg15)) because all the propositions are universal affirmatives (A-type).

I could then reply: "I concede the major (#1) and distinguish the minor (#2). Some Q is S, and some Q is not S." etc.

See the What is strict syllogistic form? (https://isidore.co/forum/index.php?topic=6.0) thread for more info.
